Skills auditing

We can facilitate or conduct Skills Audits to determine your organisations skills levels and associated skills gaps. A Skills Audit is a “snapshot” of the actual skills and knowledge (competencies) of the employee(s) at a particular point in time. We collect and collate skills audit data and information and present it to the business / organization, in a variety of reports.

By comparing the actual competencies to the required competencies, and determining the gaps, the business / organization can use this information to plan for and carry out focussed Training and Development accordingly.

Skills Audits are conducted in order to give a business a quick view or “snapshot” of the employees competence level, at a particular point in time. The data and information collected is used in skills development process to more accurately plan for particular training or learning interventions.

How does the Skills Audit process work?

The skills and knowledge (competence) that employees need to have should be defined in their job profiles and summarised in a job profile matrix (also known as a competency matrix or skills matrix).

Our team liaises with the client business or organization to achieve the following:

  • Plan and prepare the infrastructure required for the entire skills auditing process
  • Identify the target population for skills audits
  • Prepare and populate skills auditing software with the employee details, skills and knowledge (outcomes) for particular job groups, as identified during the job profiling process and collated in the skills matrices
  • Schedule, coordinate and confirm appointments for skills audits with the business/ organization and incumbents
  • Conduct the skills audits one-on-one, using best practise interviewing techniques and the services of a translator, if required.
  • Capture the information live during the interview
  • Collate the information and submit reports to the client
  • Advise and assist the client with taking remedial action to address the gaps identified during the skills audits
