Many organisations find that ”generic” or ”off-the-shelf” Learning Materials often do not meet their requirements. Therefore, learning materials, training materials, training manuals, training guides, facilitator guides or books need to be customized for the business so that internal training can occur.

The main idea in Outcomes Based Education or Competency Based Education is to divide the learning material (learning course) into small manageable “chunks” for learning.

Each “chunk” is then formulated in a so-called Specific Outcome. A Specific Outcome summarises its content in terms of a skill and knowledge as well as the associated assessment criteria which the learner has to satisfy.

We develop specific, unique and customized outcomes-based Learning Material. When a need for Learning Material is identified by our client to address skills gaps identified in skills audits, to address areas/ processes/ functions identified during the mapping process, improve performance, etc.

Before the project can start, a needs analysis is conducted to establish the exact requirements and specifications of the (outcomes-based) learning material, training manuals, facilitator’s guides, supplementary material (e.g., DVD’s, games, posters) tools and accessories, etc. The format and template are agreed, developed and given to the client for approval and sign-off.

Once the exact project specifications and format have been agreed and approved, we compile and agree a detailed development plan (phases, assigned development personnel, client contact/ support personnel, delivery dates, editing cycles, etc.)

The Learning Materials are outcomes-based, linked to unit standards (where relevant), developed according to best practise and client specifications/ requirements, and:

  • Are appropriate to the learner (and learning context) and meet the needs of the learner
  • Enable the learner to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to achieve the specific outcomes
  • Are based on adult learning principles
  • Allow for special needs of learners
  • Comply with the quality assurance requirements of the client business / organization
